-Synopsis-

Yagami Light is an extremely intelligent young man who resents the crime and corruption in the world. His life undergoes a drastic change when he discovers a mysterious notebook, known as the “Death Note”, lying on the ground in the year 2003. The Death Note’s instructions claim that if a human’s name is written within it that person shall die. Light is initially skeptical of the Death Note’s authenticity, believing it is just a prank. However, after experimenting with it and killing two criminals, Light is forced to admit that the Death Note is real. After meeting with the previous owner of the Death Note, a shinigami named Ryuk, Light seeks to become “the God of the new world” by passing his judgment on criminals.

Soon, the number of inexplicable deaths of reported criminals catches the attention of the International Police Organization and a mysterious detective known only as “L“. L quickly learns that the serial killer, dubbed by the public as “Kira” (derived from the Japanese pronunciation of the word “Killer“), is located in Japan. L also concludes that Kira can kill people without laying a finger on them. Light realizes that L will be his greatest nemesis, and a game of psychological cat and mouse between the two begins.

Death Note, this anime is probably one of the many good series I’ve ever watched. The good thing about this anime is that it demands for attention, look away a second and you’ll have missed what’s happening. The storyline is just captivating, lots of well thought out details with little or no loopholes.

Every episode sees something happening, leaves much to be said when by the end of the episode, you’ll find yourself just going blank, because you’ll have to wait for the next episode.

It’s not just the storyline, but the characters as well. It’s really amazing how Light and L try to outplay each other with mind boggling psychological warfare and trying to out-think and think ahead of each other. Truly exhilarating indeed. I find myself breathless after every episode as if I can’t get enough water to quench my thirst. I truly love Light, he might be evil but in some sick, twisted way, you tend to fall in love with Light and want him to not get caught! Despite loving Light, I love L too, his eccentricism is so funny, truly amazing.

This anime rivals some non-anime series for it’s detective scenario. Indeed, I love this anime as much as I love CSI you can never guess what’s going to be happening, when Light is gonna get caught, when is L going to finally get the mass murderer and such (unless they reveal it themselves, of course).

This is definitely one of the animes that will not be forgotten for a while yet.

For the next week, I would not be reviewing any anime at all until Monday 1st of October. Why? I have an exam (which is also the last exam before I finish this semester) on Monday the 24th of September. Thus I have been using these few days to study.

I’ll not be at home on Tuesday the 25th of September because it’s my brother’s birthday and I would need to go out scouting for a present for him. Not only that, I will be looking in on one of the very few anime/manga stores located in the vicinity of Selangor.

And from 26th of September onwards, I would be forced to clean up my whole room. However, in between that, I may just do a few reviews when I can get a few hours of relief >_^

The name attracted me, and honestly? I didn’t have anything else to download but this at that point of time, so I just downloaded it just to see what’s it all about.

Hei is one of the most powerful of these psychic agents, and along with his blind associate, Yin, works for one of the many rival agencies vying to unlock the mysteries of Hell’s Gate.

Sounds kind of boring to me. When I watched this anime, I stopped after the 3rd episode and then after a while, picked it up again and kinda started to like it.

In my opinion, it has a good storyline, it has the details, background, character abilities, life and death situations. However, the show becomes complicated after every episode. This anime is about a world that is similar to ours with the exception that it has gone through a drastic transformation where one day, out of the blue, a wall or barrier called “Hell’s Gate” appeared that separates the people inside and the unknown, outside. In the city walls, there are people that were given special abilities, these special abilities were given to them not by their own choice. It’s just given.

These people with these special abilities are called “Contractors” and after using their powers, they have to replenish themselves by doing different stuff. Each person has a different ability, and with each different ability, comes with a different way of replenishing themselves. It could either be through smoking, consuming alcohol, eating massively, or even eating cigarettes and then omitting it out from the mouth. Apparently Contractors have no emotions, thus they have no qualms when they are to kill others.

The drawing style is okay, a little dull but I guess it can be said as fit for the storyline. Because Contractors are also human, you can’t really know who is or who isn’t until the episodes suddenly reveals the Contractor. There isn’t much background coverage at the beginning but it slowly unfolds as the story goes on in the next few episodes.

Personally, I found this anime going a bit slow for me. However, I can’t say I don’t like it because I do like it but not to the extent of wanting to watch it a second time. Once is enough for me.

Ahh, what can I say, another blood, gore, battle, death anime. Not to mention medieval! You can say that I’m a wee bit blood thirsty >3> since I can’t do like they do in real life, I might as well watch animes that do !!

-Synopsis-

In a world constantly haunted by demonic predators known as “Youma”, the everyday life of humans are full of fear and suspicion, as these monsters easily blend into human society to hunt their hapless prey. However, in this world, there is also a mysterious organization, employing half-human, half-Youma warriors to effectively track down and kill the demons. Called “silver eyed witches” or “Claymores” after the huge Claymore swords they carry, these female warriors are eyed with suspicion and distrust by most because of their inhuman powers.

When the young boy Raki meets Clare, a Claymore sent to kill the Youma haunting his hometown, he is eventually caught in a story of love, revenge and treachery, as Clare’s past meets with her future…

Another great anime. Claymore is one of the more recent shounen anime that has come out in recent years and is, in fact, still airing, but not for long. It has a classic, classic plot what with all the revenge, leveling up (not like in games), powering up, justice, friendship, live and death situations, and so on. However, unlike reality medieval period, the strong characters and not to mention, most of the good guys, aren’t guys! They’re females! In fact, most of the bad guys are, not surprisingly, males.

What makes this anime different from your typical shounen anime is that the anime doesn’t drag itself out where usually there are the typical long battles, tournaments, and fistfights. From beginning to end, we see characters coming in and out, but all with reasons. Unlike normal shounen animes, they do not return in a later episode just because the anime needs more characters to fill in a spot to make it seem really cool. The characters in this anime are tied down by an organization where some were forced, some came on their own accord, some came by both. The characters come together and have to fight because there was a good reason to.

Also unlike some shounen anime, the characters in this anime do die. They don’t get chopped into half and then suddenly get back up, healed. No, here, when they’re dead, they stay dead. Though, I have to say, they were very specific on the point where they mentioned that they had to be severed thoroughly or they wouldn’t be really dead (i.e. chopping off the head, chopped into half). What happened in the past, have affects on what happens in the present in this anime. Allys and foes are made throughout this anime because of these events and encounters.

What we can see from the important characters is that they tend to leave deep impressions whereas the not-so-important ones leave only a slight impression that they’re there and then it’s gone, leaving viewers to concentrate more on the more important characters and their stories and journeys. This is actually a good thing because if all the characters leave deep impressions, eventually, the viewers would be confused as to who did what to who and when.

Other than that, the story in itself is rich in originality where the what should have been males, were filled out by female characters and so on. The drawings are highly unusual and not very conventional. Characters have splendid background coverage, especially so when at first, you see the character being cold and arrogant, turned to lonely, sorrow-filled individuals.

I totally enjoyed this anime, everytime an episode ends and the next isn’t out yet, I feel myself clawing at the air going “WTH!! Finish already?! So fast?! No!!!!!! I want to watch what happened!!! T3T” I’m thoroughly unhappy to have to wait a whole week for the next episode and it’s going to end soon! It’s currently, at this point of time, at episode 24, another 2 more episodes to go ONLY!!

If you haven’t watched the one before this, I doubt you’d know what is happening, like why and how they all came to be living under the same roof, and so on and so forth. However, if you HAD watched it, I’m sure you’ll be wanting to watch this as the previous one didn’t really state as to where they were headed.

In this sequel, the anime manages to make every episode enjoyable and not to mention, sweet, romantic, and heartwrenchingly sad at times. The ending to this sequel is, if I may say so myself, open to speculation. The artist did not mention if they ended up together, in fact, I think the artist didn’t want to make his female characters go into the “He loves her…I’m nothing to him” inner battle of sorts. Nothing was disclosed at the end of this anime either. But from the ending, you’d get the idea that they’ll be together no matter what.

Expect the pacing to be slower than the previous one where there are less conflicts, less everything, so even if you’d have watched the previous one, this doesn’t really give that much information that would quench the thirsts of all hopeful anime romantics out there. This sequel seem to be more mellow, does not have a proper plot. More like…a series of mini series in this already mini series.

Let’s end this week’s reviews with one of the few harem anime that I’ve watched in the span of this year itself. (Actually, I only started watching anime this year, but hey, who’s counting?) Who doesn’t love to have a private harem, hmm? Not me, definitely. If I had a house swarming with gorgeous men, I’d be in heaven too! So let’s read what’s the fuss is all about in this anime.

-Synopsis-

Kaoru Hanabishi, a college student who lives alone, met a beautiful but bewildered girl dressed in kimono at train station. He volunteered to guide her way to the address she was looking for, which looked like in his neighborhood but turned out to be an empty lot. Not knowing what to do next, Kaoru invited the devastated girl to his apartment and asked for additional clue — a photo with two children whom Kauru immediately identified as himself and Aoi Sakuraba, his childhood friend. It turned out that the girl in front of him is Aoi Sakuraba herself, his betrothed fiance who came all the way to Tokyo to marry him. Her revelation was not only surprising but also reminded the deepest part of Kaoru’s memory for why he left the Hanabishi family in the first place.

Well, everything has got to start from somewhere no? And like every dream, it starts off with someone that you’re destined to be with for the rest of your life, well, until other people starts coming in to disrupt your well planned dreams with theatrics, drama, heartbreak, and just plain fun.

This anime, Ai Yori Aoshi, is probably one of the sweetest romance anime that I’ve ever watched. Though the story is not very unique (harem animes rarely appears unique after you’ve seen your share of them) and tend to appear like a soap opera at times, but in it’s own way, it becomes heartwarming and sweet. On the whole it’s good but I got to say, the episodes kinda focused a lot more on Kaoru’s relationship with the other females in this anime rather than his relationship with Aoi (personally, I feel kinda bad for her).

The scenes in the anime is breathtaking, not to mention the way the characters were drawn that nicely brought out the characters personality. Every character was played out nicely even to the point of their background history, how they happened to know Kaoru and why. Parts of the anime has it’s hilarities, silliness, seriousness, and miseries. The romance between Kaoru and Aoi was just enjoyable but when it comes down to his female friends that kept falling in love with him, it got really frustrating and somewhat boring after a while (not to mention that you’d feel like strangling Aoi’s guardian for not letting them show their love for each other in public.)

This anime is definitely a good choice for all the hopelessly romantic anime fans out there, it may not be one of the best anime, but it’s got great characters, and the sweet and innocent ingredient thrown in with it. Expect laughter, frustration, and tears when watching this anime.

Today, I’ll be introducing to you a new anime, but it’s not just ANY anime. It’s one of the best anime I’ve watched so far! Yes, indeed! This anime has everything a girl like me would like to see in an anime ^o^ the blood, the gore, the action, the killings, the exhilarating plot by plot organization, the conflict, the double personality, the sibling rivalry, and so many more! Yes indeed, this anime is worth watching anytime.

-Synopsis-

Throughout the passage of time and the shifts in backgrounds, a particular war continues to leave its mark on history, extending its influence into the modern world. There are two major groups involved in the ensuring war. The first group consists of monsters known as Chiropterans who can change their appearances into that of human beings. They are actually immortals who feed on the blood of the living. The second group is an organization known as the “Red Shield”, formed to track down these monsters and exterminate them. Otonashi Saya is a high-school girl who lives a peaceful life with her family. The only problem is, she has no recollections of her life beyond that of the past year. However, her happy life will be destroyed by an event that will lead her to her destined fate.

This is one of the few long series anime that I really, really liked. When I first watched it, I couldn’t move away from the monitor! Talk about serious addiction! Not only that, when my friends came over and I showed it to them, we ended up watching the whole series when we were rushing our last minute assignment that was my second time watching. After that, for no reason at all, I watched the whole anime a THIRD time that is, not to mention the fourth time I watched it when it started to air on ANIMAX, sad however that they didn’t bother to put subtitles for it, so I ended up watching my downloaded ones…AGAIN

Blood+ was one of the first few anime that I watched when I started going into the world of anime. And I have to say, this anime is one of the best ones that I have ever seen before in my life. The plot somehow manages to stay incredibly strong throughout all of the 50 episodes, after every episode leaves you wanting for more, showcasing many different types of characters, from the most comical to the most radically serious. Not only that, in it’s own, the animation has a very unique style, which simply made the show more unique.

When I came across Blood+, I had never heard of it before, not even from otaku fan-friends that I know off, so I thought, why not? The anime synopsis seemed interesting enough, though not particularly original or unique. And so I decided to give it a shot,expecting at least a decent and entertaining show but not much more than that. So you can imagine my surprise when I started watching it. I was never a big fan for blood, gore, action, or anything violent. But what started out as a fairly conventional storyline gradually unravels, revealing a vastly more complex and intricate narrative tapestry. Its deliberate pacing may be misconstrued by some as being “slow”, but as the story progresses, all the puzzle pieces that are uncovered early on start to fall into place, and things that once seemed insignificant or nonsensical begin to make sense. And to say the least, this series was the first that got me hooked on this genre of anime.

What every viewer must realize first off is that this is NOT just an anime about vampires. The fact that the characters often require blood to survive is used as an effective plot device, but it is not the entire focus of the show. What this means is that it appeals to both those who love vampire animes and those who do not, creating, as a whole, an extremely balanced, well crafted anime. These characters actually felt like real, living, breathing people and not just 2-D images on the TV screen. They change and evolve as time goes by, and after a particular event occurs, don’t be surprised if you find yourself regarding certain characters in a totally different light.

The anime will be a joy for anyone who watches it. The storyline ranges from romance, to comedy, to intrigue, to detailed pseudo-history, innocence and experience, violence and peace, and then circles around again to the vague but omnipresent romance that insinuates itself, not as the main focus, but as a continuing theme throughout.
